We are all familiar with various versions of windows Operating systems like Windows xp,Windows Vista,Windows 7 & now Windows 8,But these are not the only versions of windows realesed by MICROSOFT.
WINDOWS 1.0 : (code name : chess)
- Microsoft Windows was announced in Nov 10,1983.Microsoft takes its own effective time to develop the first version of Windows operating system.Later,Microsoft introduce its first version "windows 1.0" in NOV 20,1985.
- It is a 16 bit graphical operating system with multi tasking user interface.It comes upwith additional programs like calculator,calendar,clipboard viewer,clock,notepad,paint.
- In this version of Windows applications are only tiled,overlapping is not possible,Only dialog box will overlap.
- Though Skeptics calls it "vaporware"
WINDOWS 2.0 :
- Windows 2.0 is a 16 bit microsoft windows GUI-based operating environment that was released on Dec 9,1987.
- This version has Desktop Icons with Improved Graphics Memory with an option to overlap windows and usage of keyboard shortcuts to speed your work.
- For the first Time,Software developer's coded their programs under this version of windows
WINDOWS 3.X :
- Wndows 3.0 is multimedia version with multimedia extension version 1.0 released on may 22,1990. This was the first version to run in protected mode. With full support for the Intel 386 processor, Program Manager, File Manager, and Print Manager arrive in ths version. Microsoft also start to provide software development kit form this version.
- Windows 3.1 is preceded by Windows 3.0 was released in Apr 6,1992. Internet explorer v2.0 is introduced in this version. It sells over 1 million copies within two month of its release.
- Windows 3.11 is an updated version of 3.0. Introduction of mouse allowed the user to navigate and manipulate data on computer makes with version very familiar.
- Windows 3.1 for workgroups comes up with SMB file sharing support via the NETBIOS based NBF/IPX network transport protocols,released in Oct,1992.
- Windows 3.2 is an updated version of v 3.11,but its a chinese version,only modified for chinese.
WINDOWS NT:
- Windows NT was the first fully 32-bit operating system,it is the godfather for all latest versions of windows.
- It provides high security and stability than any other DOS operating system
- Two new functions like Remote Procedure Call and Network DDE facilitate the access and data exchange between different computers inside a network.
- Microsoft releases windows NT 3.1 in july 27,1993,windows NT 3.5 in sep 24,1994 and windows NT 3.51 in may 30,1995.
